America First comes to the arms industry
On 6 February 2026, President Donald Trump signed an executive order “Establishing An America First Arms Transfer Strategy”, that seeks to do two things at once: speed up U.S. arms exports and wield them more deliberately as an industrial-policy tool. Rather than treating foreign military sales as a largely “partner-driven” queue, the order sets out an “America First Arms Transfer Strategy” that links who gets what, and when, to what the U.S. wants to build at home.
