Tensions with Moscow have sharpened after Russia’s ambassador to France, Alexey Meshkov, warned that any NATO shoot-down of Russian aircraft would trigger war. His remarks follow mounting Russian incursions along allied borders. NATO leaders, led by Secretary-General Mark Rutte, pledged unity while some governments pressed for restraint and others threatened force. Poland has issued an urgent call for its citizens to leave Belarus, citing risks of instability as Russian forces and equipment remain stationed there. Warsaw also accuses Minsk of orchestrating migrant flows in a hybrid campaign against the European Union. Domestically, the White House ordered agencies to prepare mass layoffs in the event of a budget shutdown. Meanwhile has Trump announced sweeping tariffs and called for deep rate cuts, pairing economic nationalism with monetary populism. Abroad, he rejected Israeli annexation of the West Bank, as Greece, Spain and Italy pledged naval support for a Gaza-bound flotilla.
